Dr. Zadeh is a tenured Associate Professor and the director of the post-doctoral periodontology program at the University of Southern California (USC), Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Zadeh received his doctor of dental surgery degree from USC Ostrow School of Dentistry. He has also completed advanced clinical education in Periodontology and earned a PhD degree in immunology from the University of Connecticut, Schools of Dental Medicine and Medicine.

Dr. Zadeh is internationally recognized for his clinical and scientific expertise. His clinical areas of interest range from esthetic and minimally invasive periodontal and implant surgery, as well as tissue engineering. Dr. Zadeh directs the Laboratory for Immunoregulation and Tissue Engineering (LITE) at USC, dedicated to studying basic mechanisms to regulate bone and tissue regeneration/destruction under health/disease states, as well as conducting clinical trials of dental implant outcomes.

He has an extensive publication track, having published in peer-reviewed journals, as well as book chapters. Dr. Zadeh is the director of USC International Periodontal and Implant Symposium, which is currently in its 41st American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), Academy of Osseointegration (AO), American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (AAED) and American Association for Dental Research (AADR). Dr. Zadeh also maintains a part-time private practice limited to Periodontology in Southern California.

Michael L. Matsuda, DDS, attended the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco where he was awarded the Western Society of Periodontology graduation award for excellence in periodontics. He returned to his hometown of Portland to pursue advanced training in Periodontology and Dental Implants. Dr. Michael completed a three-year residency at Oregon Health and Science University School of Dentistry, earning a Certificate of Advanced Education in Periodontics and Implantology, and has joined his father in private practice.After completion of his residency program, Dr. Michael obtained his board certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a distinction awarded to very few periodontists practicing in the U.S. In his second year of private practice, Dr. Michael was selected by his peers as a “Top Dentist” in the field of periodontics for Portland Monthly Magazine.

Michael has intimate knowledge and extensive skill in oral implantology and implant related surgeries including advanced hard and soft tissue augmentation procedures such as sinus augmentation and bone regeneration. Periodontal plastic surgery procedures such as esthetic soft tissue grafting and esthetic crown lengthening also figured heavily in his training, as did regenerative periodontal therapies. His residency incorporated advanced sedation training for intravenous sedation of surgical patients.

In addition to teaching, patient care and research in the Department of Periodontology, Michael gained invaluable training in the treatment of medically compromised patients through hospital residency rotations at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center at OHSU. He has been privileged to attend several limited attendance advanced surgical courses beyond school and shown great enthusiasm for staying on the cutting edge of evidence-based practice, incorporating the latest technological advances into patient treatment options.

Dr. Michael has served as an officer of several professional organizations including: Vice President of the Oregon Society of Periodontists, Treasurer and Executive Board Committee member for the Western Society of Periodontology, and a Delegate of the Washington County Dental Society. Dr. Michael is also involved in numerous professional organizations including: the Academy of Osseointegration, the American Academy of Periodontology, Western Society of Periodontology, Oregon Society of Periodontists, the International Team for Implantology, the American Dental Association, Oregon Dental Association, Washington County Dental Society, and the American Dental Education Association.

Dr. Michael believes that learning is a life-long process and hence has continued to further his education through numerous CE courses in addition to presenting educational programs to professional colleagues. He lectures to numerous dental hygiene schools and professional organizations, and serves as an Affiliate Assistant Professor for the OHSU Department of Periodontology. He also is the director of a Spears Study Club and the Oregon Chapter of the Western Society of Periodontology Dental Hygiene Study Club.

Prior to his professional dental education Dr. Michael obtained a Bachelor of Science degree at Oregon State University where he was active in leadership and student mentoring. He went on to apply leadership skills at University of the Pacific, participating in an overseas dental mission to Fiji and then chairing the subsequent program for the foundation. Closer to home, Dr. Michael served as Team Lead in Surgical Anesthesia for the Oregon Mission of Mercy in 2010, 2011, and 2013 and is eager to continue serving his community here in Washington County. As an affiliate assistant professor at OHSU, Dr. Michael volunteers his time to teach dental students about periodontics in the pre-doctoral dental clinic. Dr. Michael also regularly volunteers at Pacific University to lecture to dental hygiene students in addition to volunteering monthly for Project Homeless Connect to help the local under served population.

“Born and raised in Portland, I attended Sunset High School and will make my home in Hillsboro where I look forward to embarking on my professional career. I enjoy sports and the outdoors, spending free time snowboarding, surfing, hiking/camping, playing basketball, football, softball, and more recently, golf. If anyone wants to feel better about their golf game, I would be glad to make you look stellar by comparison.” Dr. Michael also enjoys spending time with his french bulldog Scooter who is the Hillsboro Implants & Periodontics office mascot.

Born and raised in Jamestown, N.Y., Tom Kepic remained in N.Y. for a B.A. in biology from Canisius College in Buffalo in 1971. He earned a D.D.S. in 1975 from the Buffalo campus of the State University of New York. Under the mentorship of Dr. Timothy O’Leary at Indiana University, he was granted a Certificate of Periodontics and an M.S.D. in 1977.

Then in 1977-1978 Dr. Kepic was Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco School of Dentistry, learning a great deal in association with Dr. R. Earl Robinson. Opportunities allowed him to open a private practice in Periodontics in Upland, California, in 1978; his practice grew as his reputation for thorough professionalism became recognized throughout the area and beyond. In 1985, following extensive study/training in implantology, Dr. Kepic added implant dentistry to his practice.

From early practice, he has remained active in organizational volunteerism and practically obsessed with continual efforts at learning. He gained Diplomate status from the American Board of Periodontology in 1982. He became Region Leader for the California Society of Periodontists in 1983 and continued in that post for the next 25 years. As President of CSP in 2011, Dr. Kepic personally visited all 17 regions in California, sharing news and encouraging active participation.

Elected to the Board of Directors of the American Board of Periodontology in 2008, a term that was completed in 2013, he is Past Chairman of the Board. He looks upon these experiences with the ABP as a tremendous honor.

Having been a member of the Western Society of Periodontology since 1977, Dr. Kepic served as the California Representative from 2010 until 2013. His impassioned approach to enhancing communication among periodontists, general dentists, and hygienists will enhance his contribution as a WSP officer, beginning this year as Treasurer.

Dr. Kepic has sustained an active TJK Study Club for many years. His leadership has been characterized by a generous campaign toward participation of hygienists and assistants as well as restorative dentists. This involvement in support of ancillary staff extends to his position on the Advisory Board of Chaffey College, from 1990 to the present, support recognized by a Certificate of Appreciation from Chaffey in November, 2012.

An active guest lecturer, Dr. Kepic frequently returns to Indiana University and the University of Texas, San Antonio; he also lectures at Loma Linda University, Louisiana State University, Oregon Health Science University, USC, Wadsworth VA Hospital in West L.A., University of Michigan, Virginia Commonwealth University at Richmond, and Western University. He has published in refereed journals.

His philosophy of practice relies on continual learning, extensive networking with both established and beginning colleagues, and a personal commitment to special care of his patients, along with a history of documenting case management over time.

Dean N. Ahmad, DDS, FICOI, DABP was born in Birmingham, England (UK) and was raised in Miami, Florida. He currently maintains a private practice specializing in the treatment of Periodontal Diseases, Periodontal Plastic Surgical Therapies, and Implant Dentistry in the Greater Sacramento, CA area. Dr. Ahmad received both his graduate certificate in Periodontics and his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan. He is a Board Certified, Diplomate, Periodontist from the American Board of Periodontology. He is also obtained Fellowship from both the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and from the Pierre Fauchard Honorary Academy.

Throughout his training, he has completed internships in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from both Northwestern University and the University of Miami. He has also lectured both domestically (CDA Scientific Sessions/SDDS…) and internationally. Dr. Ahmad has participated in multiple research projects, and published numerous scientific articles. He has also completed advanced implant training from the Misch International Implant Institute. Dr. Ahmad has attained Clinical Assistant Professorship in Periodontology and Orofacial Sciences from the University of California, San Francisco.

He is the current President of Dental APPNA. This is a collaborate Dental/Medical organization. Dr. Ahmad is also on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento District Dental Society. He is also on the Board Advisory Committee for Carrington College, School of Dental Hygiene and is an Examiner for Intravenous Conscious Sedation Licensure from the Dental Board of California. Dr. Ahmad and his team have played a major role in applying innovative medical and technological advances to current Periodontics and Implant Dentistry.

Laurence S. Ambrose, DDS, MS is a board certified periodontist and has been a full-time staff member at the VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona since 1998. He is also Adjunct Clinical Faculty at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health. He received his certificate in Periodontics from the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and his Master of Science degree through Marquette University. From 1991 to 1995 he was a Commissioned Officer with the United States Public Health Service and practiced general dentistry on numerous Indian Reservations in northern New Mexico. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry and is Past President of the Arizona Society of Periodontists.

Dr. Ambrose received his Master of Science in Oral Biology from Marquette University in 2000 and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 2002.

A Chicago native, Dr. Drury earned a B.A. in psychology, a B.S. in dentistry, as well as a D.D.S. from the University of Illinois. He holds a master’s degree in physiology from the Medical College of Virginia. Having interned at the Northeast Florida State Hospital, he practiced general dentistry for four years in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. He then decided to specialize in Periodontics, earning the Certificate in Periodontics at LSU and a research award from the American Association of Dental Research. He still returns to LSU annually as an instructor for its Periodontal Board Review course.

Dr. Drury began what has become more than 36 years’ teaching at the USC School of Dentistry; for the first two years, he taught full-time, after which he has remained as Clinical Professor and Course Director on a part-time status, earning a teaching award from USC Post-Graduate Periodontics. Since 1980 he has practiced Periodontics and dental implants in Hermosa Beach, California.

Dr. Drury possesses a sterling history of leadership and service in his profession. Service for the American Board of Periodontology has included positions of past Director and former Chairman, as well as newsletter Editor. He has served as a trustee for the American Academy of Periodontology from 2012 to the present. For the California Society of Periodontists he has served as Periodontal Peer Review Chairman for nearly 20 years and also served as their president. In addition he is the recipient of their outstanding public service award. His work for the Western Society of Periodontology has included not only a past presidency, but also as Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of the Western Society of Periodontology. Dr. Drury is the Ethics Chairman for the Western Los Angeles Dental Society. Listed in Who’s Who in America, he has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally.

Excellence in writing has been an important part of Dr. Drury’s service. A Certified Dental Editor, he also received a journalism award from the International College of Dentists. He is Periodontal Peer-Review Chairman for the California Dental Association. Additionally, he has written scores of original articles.

Todd Goldman has worked in the dental industry for some 25 years. He has been a consultant for many associations inside and out of dentistry and has been a publisher for those 25 years. Some of his current and past clients include: The American Academy of Periodontology, The Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, The Chicago Dental Society, The Academy of General Dentistry, Florida Medical Association, The American Library Association, The National Association of Health Underwriters and the United States Tennis Association. Mr. Goldman has overseen the complete overhaul of numerous dental meetings, dental journals and publications during his two decades in the dental field. Goldman Association Management has been featured in Tradeshow Week for its expertise for twice growing the AGD Annual Meeting into the fastest growing medical meeting in the US (1995 and 1997).

In the first 18 months of management of the WSP, GAM has grown the WSP by 40% in the first year alone and currently has taken the WSP from 4 team sessions a year to 15 in 2017. Along with event growth sponsorship has grown from non-existent to over 100K in just 18 months.

Goldman Association Management will manage all aspects of the Western Society of Periodontology and all members are welcomed to contact him at any time. As well, they manage the Oregon Society of Periodontists, Arizona Society of Periodontists and Inter-mountain Society of Periodontists.

Todd Goldman grew up in Miami, is a graduate of the University of Miami in Political Science, and has lived in the Tampa Bay Area with his wife (Deb) and four children for the past 24 years.
